Here at Make Believe Ideas, we’ve had a very busy couple of months – it’s Book Fair season! Book fairs are really important for us as they give us the chance to meet with all our wonderful customers and to discover what they love and want more of! We also get the chance to show off all our exciting upcoming titles!
In the lead up to book fair season, the whole office pulls together and works as a team to bring to life a new season of ideas, activities and stories. From innovative formats to crazy board book mechanics, there’s nothing we won’t take on!
We love book fairs at MBI because we get to meet all our lovely customers, see what other books are circulating in the publishing world and – most importantly – we get to show off the fantastic books we’ve been getting ready!
Bologna Children’s Book Fair, 2018
Our Sales and Editorial teams had a great time at this biggest international trade fair in the industry. With over 27,000 people attending and almost 1400 stands packed to bursting with amazing books to browse and creatives’ brains to pick, the four-day event was a blur of glitter and colour!
We were excited to present some truly exciting titles this year, including our touch and feel Have Yourself a Hairy Little Christmas and Don’t Feed a Yeti Spaghetti. The fun textures, playful rhymes and unique designs kept customers coming back for more!
Other highlights included our upcoming board book No Probllama and a hilarious rendition of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. Keep an eye out on our social media platforms and website for more on these later in the year!
London Book Fair, 2018
Over 25,000 people flock to London Book Fair to learn, network and be inspired by professionals from around the world. Our Sales team manned the fantastic MBI stand packed with sequins, stories and interactive beards (!) and loved meeting customers, whilst members of the Design and Editorial teams had a great time wandering around the stalls!
Whether it was an interview with Lauren Child, a quick seminar on education in children’s books, or an art exhibition of new illustrators from the Baltics, there was so much to see and do.
Now the book fairs are over, we’re getting back to writing, designing, making and selling our beautiful books back in Berkhamsted. Keep up to date with all the latest MBI news by following us on our social media pages – we’d love to hear from you!
